The Film Comment Podcast: New Releases
Ryan Coogler’s Sinners, a singularly bold horror movie set in Nineteen Thirties Mississippi, is at present setting theaters ablaze (in an array of formats and aspect ratios as well). The movie stars Coogler mainstay Michael B. Jordan in a twin function as a pair of badass twins returning to their rural hometown of Clarksdale to construct a blues joint—with performers whose skills are highly effective sufficient to summon some undesirable spirits.
To speak about this fascinating movie—which weaves collectively genres and tones to startling, if at instances overwhelming, impact—Film Comment Editors Clinton Krute and Devika Girish invited Podcast veteran Robert Daniels (Rogerebert.com) and FC’s very personal Michael Blair into their humble juke-joint. After sinking their fangs into Sinners, the group touches on a number of different new theatrical releases they’re enthusiastic about, together with Steven Soderbergh’s trendy spy thriller Black Bag (42:26) and Andrew Ahn’s The Wedding ceremony Banquet (52:22), a refreshing replace on Ang Lee’s 1993 traditional.
